Types of Diabetes
Diabetes is caused due to increase in the blood sugar level. Level of sugar increases when insulin is not synthesized or if the body is not giving response to insulin. According to the presence and effect of insulin, diabetes is divided in to three types type I, type II and gestational diabetes
Type I diabetes
- This type of diabetes is also called as 'Juvenile diabetes'
- Children and adolescents are affected by this type of diabetes
- This type of diabetes is related to the autoimmune response
- In autoimmune disease, immune system becomes more active
- Generally, in defense mechanism WBCs attack the microbes and kill them.
- In Type I diabetes, the WBCs attacks the cells of pancreas which perform the function of synthesizing insulin
- In pancreas, beta cells are destroyed
- Due to destruction of beta cells pancreas does not produce the insulin hormone
- Insulin makes the tissue permeable for glucose absorption
- In absence of insulin blood sugar or glucose level increases
- In type I diabetes tissue cells are responsive and sensitive for the insulin , but insulin is not available in the blood
- research is Still going on why the immune system attacks the beta cells
- Environmental factors or genetic factors or viruses may be changed response of the immune system
Type II diabetes
- This type of diabetes is very common. Ninety to ninety five percent of the people in the world suffer from this type of diabetes
- There are different reasons of causing this type of diabetes like being overweight, old age, family history, rich carbohydrate content diet and type of work a person is doing
- The patient shows symptoms like nausea, frequent thirst and urination, weight loss and slow healing of wounds
- At the early stage, patient may not show any symptoms
Gestational Diabetes
- Those women who have diabetes patient in family have more risk of diabetes
- This type diabetes is developed during pregnancy period
- Those women who suffer from this type of diabetes have twenty to thirty percent more chances of causing type II diabetes in ix to ten years
- Sometimes the gestational diabetes can be cured completely after the child birth, if treatment is given
- This type is caused due to the low secretion and response of the insulin
- In some if patients proper treatment is not given, then it can be dangerous to fetus as well as to mother
- It can create abnormalities in the development of the central nervous system of the baby, cardiac problems, improper formation of the muscle tissue
- If, tissue of the mother is not giving positive response to the insulin, then insulin level increases in the blood
- High level of insulin an cause respiratory distress and destruction of the red blood cells
- This type of diabetes is more dangerous for the fetus, because it increases the possibility of diabetes in the child also
