Symptoms of Flu
Flu is highly communicable disease. Now whole world is facing the epidemic of swine flu. It is caused by the H1N1 virus. This disease is spreading to different countries by through people from one country to other.
Flu spreads from infectious droplets released at the time of coughing, sneezing, and talking. Shearing of the items used by the patient causes flu.
Symptoms shown by the flu patient
Fever
- Fever is an elevation of body temperature
- This is common response of immune system.
- Whenever body encounters the virus, bacteria, or fungi body temperature increases.
- Fever shows symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and sweating.
Cough
- In most of the respiratory infections, the patient starts dry coughing which afterwards turns into wet cough. The lungs produce more sputum in wet cough.
- If the cough is not cured on time then it can progressed to severe cough, which can remain for many days
Shivering
- The skeletal muscles shake due to cold or by the cold perception
- The temperature of the patient remains high but he/she feels cold
- Shivering can be serious, therefore the patient needs check up from doctor
Appetite
- The patient does not like to eat anything
- Provide lots of water and juices of fresh fruits to the patient
- Strictly avoid milk and dairy products
Rhinorrhea (Running nose)
- Meaning of rhinorrhea is 'rhinos-of the nose' and 'rrhea- flow or discharge'
- This is very common symptoms of flu
- The discharge from the nose could be thick and coloured
- In children running nose is more common as compared to adult
Muscle pain
- Pains in soft tissues and ligaments that connects organs and bones
- Pain in muscles is one of the symptoms of the infection
- After infection of influenza virus whole body starts paining and the patient finds difficulty in sleeping
Blocked nose
- Difficulty in breathing due to blocked nose
- Infection of influenza virus causes swelling of the nasal epithelium and blood vessels leads to blocking of nose
Sore throat (Acute pharyngitis)
- Swelling of the throat
- Throat pain for long period
- Swelling of tonsils inhibits swallowing of food material and breathing
Headache
- In head pain sensitive structures are present which control pain
- The influenza virus disturbs the structure of the pain sensitive structure results in headache
