Symptoms of Diabetes
Diabetes is related to the increase or decrease in the level of blood sugar. Diabetes shows two types Type I and Type II. The symptoms shown by both types of diabetes are different.
Symptoms shown by Type 1 diabetes
- This type of diabetes is caused by infection of virus, which damages the insulin producing cells of pancreas
- In this type, less amount of insulin is produced. Insulin increases permeability of the tissue for absorbing glucose, but less availability of insulin reduces absorption of glucose in the tissue.
- Glucose is necessary for production of energy in the form of ATP
- The patient shows symptoms like vomiting and nausea in absence of energy
- To get energy body utilizes fats of muscular tissue, which causes reduction in body weight and dehydration
- Coma or sometimes death
Symptoms shown by Type 2 diabetes
Fatigue
- Type 2 diabetes is caused by increase in blood sugar
- To get energy body uses fats of the adipose tissue. More energy from fats is required to do physical activities as compared to the energy from glucose source.
- Use of tissue fats for getting energy causes fatigue
Polydipsia
- The level glucose in the blood increases, when it is not absorbed by the tissue
- High level of glucose in the blood stimulates drinking of water for dilution
Frequent urination
- Frequently person becomes thirsty and drinks lot of water, this leads to more formation of urine
- To reduce level of blood glucose body excretes large amount of urine
Hunger
- Body cells do not get glucose for production of energy, this stimulates the part of the brain which controls hunger of a person
- The diabetic patient frequently becomes hungry and eats many times in a day
Changes in body weight
- The patient loses body weight, due to utilization of tissue fats for production of energy, which is required for different physical activities
- Sometime person consumes food many times leads to increase in body weight
Neuropathy
- It is found that increase in level of sugar damages the neurons of nervous system
- The limb extremities like hands, fingers and feet become senseless
Blurred vision
In diabetes fluid from cells of the eye lenses is pulled outside the lenses, which affects the ability of focusing leading to blurred vision
low healing of wounds
- WBC's are involved in defense mechanism of immune system. High level of sugar in the blood affects the production of WBC.
- Less amount WBC in blood slows down the wound healing
- Blood vessels become thick resulting in disturbance in circulation of blood in different parts of the body
Other symptoms
- Dry and itchy skin
- Infection of virus, bacteria and fungus due to weak immune system
- Less supply of glucose to the brain and other parts of the body leads to irritability, tiredness and discomfort
