Stress and Heart Disease

Stress is common with many people in life due to several factors including relationships, work or health. Stress can cause psychological, emotional and physical problems for an individual. Sometimes the stress level increases so high that it results in heart diseases. A research has shown that most patients under 50 suffer from heart diseases mostly due to stress from their workplace.

Researchers are still trying to find whether stress directly causes heart diseases. Stress may be the risk factor for that contributes to high blood pressure and high cholesterol. For instance, when a person is under stress and trying to relieve himself by smoking, drinking alcohol or procrastinating, the creativity and action of the body reduces. According to a research conducted in the United Kingdom for 12 years, most of the workers are likely to have coronary heart diseases.

This research has proved the connection between the stress and heart problems. The chances of getting heart diseases are more when a worker is in his or her 50s. About 70% of men and women, who are above 50 years, are likely to have heart diseases. However, most of them are not aware that their heart problems are the results of stress.

It doesn't mean that only people in their 50s can have heart diseases due to stress. It is because older people do not have stress of work and responsibility as they are about to retire from their job. On the contrary, younger workers are under pressure and physical strain. Hence, these people suffer from low heart rate and finally from the coronary heart problems.

When behavioral difference of people is concerned to understand the relation between the stress and heart diseases, it shows that factors like smoking; drinking, exercise and diet play a significant role in increasing the chances of heart diseases. This study also highlights the fact that stress has a direct effect on the autonomic nervous system and biological and behavioral factors in humans. Stress affects the autonomic nervous system that causes failure of ANS the functions. ANS fails to send the signals to the heart, and heart disease more likely to develop in this situation.

The best way to reduce the chances of heart diseases is first to cope with stress. Find out the ways to manage stress using mind relaxation techniques that include meditation, yoga and massage. Change in attitude and positive thinking help effectively in stress treatment.
