Stomach Flu Remedies
Stomach flu can be cause by the viral infection, bacteria, biotoxins and parasites. The average period of stomach flu can be three days. However, there is no unique treatment for the stomach flu, but some home remedies can be helpful in managing it. These remedies can reduce the severity of flu and make the patient feel relax from the symptoms of stomach flu. Here are some of the remedies discussed below:
- Medications
Medications are helpful in the advanced stages of stomach flu. The patient must go to the doctor whenever doctor will ask for check ups. If children are suffering from stomach flu symptoms, a pediatrician must be consulted immediately. Child treatment of stomach cancer may be different from the adult treatment.
- Enough Rest
Stomach flu causes severe affects to the body and the intestinal tract, therefore the patient needs a complete rest to avoid further damages to the body. If the patient is suffering from vomiting, doctors recommend the patients to have immediate rest for at least four hours in which even drinking water is also not allowed. However, a patient may rinse his or her mouth with water to clean mouth, but cannot drink it during the rest period.
- Diet Tips
After the rest of four hours, the patient can start to take small sips of water. For next 4-8 hours he or she can have tea, water and other types of liquids. Only liquids that contain the more amount of sugar should be avoided, as this sugar can cause the stomach upset.
Dairy products and the foods that contain high fats should be avoided for next ten days. These types of foods can make the intestinal tract worse. Every person can have different strategy to normalize the daily diet. For example, some people may prefer flat sod pop, or some people may take boiled rice or fat free chicken. The vegetables, fruits, meats, cottage cheeses and butter will be allowed to the patient.
- Fluids
Fluids are most helpful food if a person suffering from the stomach flu symptoms. Different fluids include soda pop, water, weak tea, apple juices, and fruit gelatin. Soda pop is beneficial when it is taken in small quantity. However, coffee is a clear fluid, bit it can cause other aggravations.
- Self Hygiene
Stomach flu is one of the contagious diseases that can be spread from one individual to another. Personal hygiene is important to prevent the spread of stomach flu. One must avoid any contact from the infected person’s any type of fluid. Precautions should be taken to reduce the risk of stomach flu such as washing the hands before and every time you have food.
