Stomach flu is common in elder people as the general type of flu. When children suffer from stomach flu, it becomes more than the common flu. It can even cause the great risk of dehydration. Stomach flu is a contagious disease that can be spread from one individual to another easily. Stomach flu in children transmits in many ways like:
- Foods: If the child has eaten the stomach flu virus infected food, the child can be infected directly by the stomach flu virus.
- Exposure to the infected person: If a healthy child has shared the infected person's foods or has came into the contact of utensils of that person.
- Exposure: If the child has touched the surface infected by stomach flu virus and touches his or her mouth that also can cause stomach flu.
The transmission is more likely to happen through the family members of the infected children.
Incubation Period of Stomach Flu in Children
Stomach flu virus takes some days to show its symptoms. When the stomach flu virus affects the intestine its development starts there. Its symptoms can be seen after 1 to 2 days of its infection. The duration taken from infection to the symptoms is considered as the "Stomach Flu Incubation Period" in children.
Diagnosis Stomach Flu in Children
Doctors need to examine the medical history of a child before the treatment of stomach flu. For diagnosing stomach flu, physical examination and study of symptoms is also necessary. Sometimes, tests are performed to detect certain types of stomach flu viruses.
Treatment for Stomach Cancer in Children
Scientists are still trying to find a successful medicine for the treatment of stomach flu. However, the treatment is mainly targeted to provide the energy to the children to fight against the stomach flu symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea. Children are at more risk of dehydration due to their small body size. Hence, oral rehydration is helpful to manage these symptoms. The oral rehydration solutions include minerals, salts and fluids.
It is also important to visit the doctor before administering the medicines for diarrhea and vomiting. Children also need bed rest until 24 hours are over after vomiting.
