Chronic Sinus Infection
Generally, chronic sinusitis is the result of the nasal infection occurred due to the viral influenza and common cold. However, if a healthy person gets infected by the chronic sinusitis, it can be easily treated within short period from the day it is detected. When the common sinus infection takes long time to heal due to the poor ventilation in the sinuses, the infection can be converted into the chronic sinus infection.
Many people with chronic sinusitis are affected by more than one factor that causes the chronic sinusitis. They also feel that molds and the airborne pollutants are affecting them severely. A chronic sinusitis effects can harm the healthy life. Hence, it is important to recognize the chronic sinusitis at proper time to avoid the serious damages to the body.
Chronic sinus Infection Symptoms
- Nasal Discharge: Nasal discharge is very common in chronic sinus infection. The patient’s nose can be filled with the mucus that has yellowish green color. The person will have the thick mucus which can have smell. This condition shows the chronic sinusitis that causes from the dental infection.
- Nasal Congestion: In chronic nasal infection patient suffers from the nasal congestion or blockage. This blockage occurs due to the allergy of certain foods, fungi, pollens or bacteria. Sometimes the surrounding atmosphere’s temperature and the changes in the nasal anatomy. The enlarge turbinates can be the major factor for the nasal obstruction in some of the cases of chronic sinus infection.
- Persistent Cough: When a person is always coughing, and no medicine has been effective for its treatment, the patient is recommended to see the ENT specialist. The infection can be diagnosed when the X-ray doesn't show any sign of lung infection.
- Blocked Ears: Patients of chronic sinus infection often feel that their ears get blocked sometimes. The mucus is produced in good amount and it is sticky, hence the Eustachian tubes in nasal cavity are blocked easily. In this blocked ears situation, the patient loses the sense of hearing, and proper treatment is necessary to avoid the ear infection due to the long time ear blockage. If the proper treatment is not applied at right time, it may cause serious damage to the hearing ability of that person.
- Fever and Sore Throat: The immune system of the person gets weakened slowly, when the person is infected by the chronic sinusitis caused by the fungi. This results into the fever bouts and sore throat to the patient. The patient becomes very weak even after the treatment of fever come to end.
Chronic Sinusitis Treatment
Chronic sinus infection can be treated by the effective antibiotics that include narrow spectrum drugs and broad-spectrum drugs. Avelox and cedax are the most recommended antibiotics prescribed by the most of the ENT specialists. In some of the cases surgical treatment is also used which is called nasaopharyngeal ventilation. In this surgery, the enlarge tubinates are removed.
