Seasonal Allergy Symptoms
Seasonal allergies appear only in some certain times of the year that are caused by the exposure to airborne substances. Some typical seasonal allergy symptoms include postnasal drip, runny nose, itchy nose, tearing and watering eyes and in condition of asthma, there may be shortness of breath, cough and wheezing.
But now, people are facing some other systematic complaints such as fatigue in which they face the problems of incomplete sleep. There may be also headache and severe allergies versus.
When it occurs?
Seasonal allergies are also called as hay fever and it occurs in some specific periods mostly in spring and summer that depends on the person who is allergic to. But, the term hay fever is confusing because the symptoms of the condition do not occur only in summer as the hay gathers usually in this period. There are pollens and grasses, which are responsible for causing hay fever.
Occurrence of hay fever varies with the change in season, that is, in spring the pollens of trees such as oak, maple, elm, alder, birch, olive and Jupiter causes the allergic symptoms. In summer, the pollens of grasses such as Bermuda, sweet vernal, Johnson, orchard, timothy and weeds such as English plantain and Russain thistle cause the allergies.
However, these pollens seasons may be different in different parts of the country. In the areas of arid Southwest, grasses are responsible for causing much pollination of sagebrush and Russian thistle that causes hay fever, while in the western United States a Juniper that is also called as mountain cedar is the main source to cause tree pollen.
How it can be diagnosed?
Diagnosis can be done with the help of symptoms and the condition in which they are occurred that is during certain seasons or some other. It is very helpful for doctors to recognize the allergen.
Doctors use to check the nasal discharge containing the esosinophils. Eosinophils is the type of the white blood cell that are produced in large number during the allergic condition. Skin tests are the best way to detect the condition.
Prevention ways:
The first step to treat the allergic symptoms is to avoid the basic causes of responsible for the condition. However, it is not possible to avoid all causes, but you can reduce them by taking some steps.
There are various types of medications available today but doctors prefers the medication depending upon the type of the severity of symptoms, other medical conditions and age of the person facing the allergic symptoms.
Below are some tips that are helpful to avoid pollen exposure:
- You can keep the windows closed to prevent the drifting of pollens into the home
- Go for vacation to a pollen free areas during the pollen season
- Avoid cutting the lawn
- Keep windows closed while traveling
- reduce early morning activities when the pollen releases
- Dry the cloths with using machine; there may be risk of collecting pollens if the cloths hung outside for drying purpose
- Avoid going outside when the pollen count report is high.
