Dog Rabies
Rabies virus is commonly found in animals and generally in dogs. However, the rabies vaccines are developed to prevent the serious effects of rabies, but it is found that at least one person dies due to the infection of rabies virus after every ten minutes. These deaths are more frequent in the developing countries as compared to the developed countries like Unite States.
The pet owners are recommended to vaccinate their pets yearly to avoid any infection of rabies. There are two types of Rabies various- first, furious rabies and second, dumb rabies. Rabid dogs show some symptoms that help to recognize the rabies infection to a particular dog.
Symptoms of Dog Rabies
The furious rabies virus has serious side effects, and the dog infected by furious rabies will have some violent symptoms. These symptoms are-
- Rabies affected dog will fell restless and will wander anywhere aimless. The infected dogs generally try to be out of the confined premises of the home. It will bite any person or animal that comes in front of him/her.
- The rabid dog's behavior drastically changes within short period of time. It becomes so aggressive that the fear of human existence becomes absent to him/her. The biting tendency increases and it start biting any object, animal and even humans.
- The dog may loose its capacity of barking or the voice may become coarse. The larynx gets affected very much and the voice change remarkably.
- The dog's mouth will always be with full of saliva. The saliva dropping jaw can be the signal of rabies infection.
- At the final stage, the rabies infected dog becomes paralyzed. It goes into the situation of coma, and finally dies.
The dumb rabies remains for a short period and the dog also can live a few days. The dog can die within a week from the day it is infected by the virus. In this type of rabies the dog remains inactive or silent. The dog prefers to be away from the any existence of humans and animals.
If any animal bites a person and he is suspected to have infection of rabies, that person is observed for ten days under the supervision of specialists. Within this period the suspected person is not allowed to mix with other person to avoid the chances of rabies spread. The person bitten by an animal should immediately wash the site of bite and a bath also can be preferred. Medical treatment must be started with care as early as possible.
The pet owners must take their pets to the specialists and should vaccinate the dogs to avoid the attack of rabies virus.
