Prevention of Diabetes
Many diabetes patients suffer from type II diabetes. In type II diabetes there is increase in blood sugar level. Diabetes is easy to control; if the patient takes precaution, otherwise it could be dangerous.
Avoid over weight
- Being obese or overweight invites different diseases including diabetes
- It is studied that, there is more risk of diabetes to an over weight person
- Reduce your body weight. It will avoid blood pressure, problem of cholesterol and depression
- At age of eighteen, if body weight of a woman increases to ten to seventeen pounds, then it doubles the risk of diabetes
- Ninety percent of the patients are overweight. From this figure you will understand that you need to control your body weight
Diet
- There is no special diet for diabetes patients, but some precaution can be taken to control the blood sugar
- Avoid diet containing carbohydrates
- Do not take carbohydrates before two hours of bedtime
- Break up lunch and dinner into small meals
- Eat high protein breakfast
- Avoid white flour, enriched flour, bleached flour, or wheat flour mixed with other ingredients
- Always eat whole grain flour, it will save you from glycemic effect
- Glycemic effects means these white or bleached flours will work in a negative manner i.e. it will increase the blood sugar level
- You can eat preparation made from Soya and Amaranth flours
- Oat groats rather than oat meal
- Take care that your diet contains grains which are least processed
Drink
- Drink necessary amount of water in a day, it doesn't mean that drink lot of water
- If blood sugar level is high then drinking more water can be beneficial, because it dilutes blood sugar and salt concentration in the blood
- In diabetes, dilution of sugar is necessary, but more dilution can create other health problems
- There should be balance of sugar and mineral concentration in the blood
Control smoking
- It is good to stop smoking completely
- Diabetes patients who smoke face heart disease and BP problems
- Smoking can increase the level of blood sugar
Alcohol drinking
- Completely stop drinking alcohol
- If stopping alcohol is difficult for you then drink only two drinks in a day
- Only one drink a day for women
- Drinks with low sugar and alcohol for e.g. light beer, dry wine
- It is best, if you drink sugar free drinks
Exercise
- If the diabetes patient is performing exercise regularly then definitely it will lower the blood sugar level
- Sedentary life always creates problems of heart disease, blood pressure and obesity
- So, exercise regularly, it will use your saved calories from the body
Irregular menstrual cycle
- Irregular menstrual cycle can create problems of obesity and diabetes
- It is studied that women who have cycle of more than forty days have more risk of developing diabetes as compared to the women with regular menstrual cycle
