What is pollen and pollen allergy?

Pollen is one of the airborne particles that are produced by the plants in order to reproduce. There are various types of pollens including some plane-looking plants such as tress, weeds and grasses may cause the allergic allergies. Pollen particles released from the plants are mainly purposed or the fertilization that carries for miles and miles by the wind. But, unluckily these are also responsible for causing problems for the sensitive people.

The plants such as juniper and birch trees, grass, flowers, grains and other common weeds like ragweed are some of the most irritating germinating plants. Pollen seasons are different and vary on the type of trees. Pollen allergy causes hay fever. Rhinitis is the factor that is responsible for swelling of the mucus membrane, which is positioned in the sinuses and nose. This conditions leads into causing respiratory infections with pollen allergy.

How it can be diagnosed?

Most of people suspect that they have a summer cold if they are having allergy with pollen grains. After the appearance of such symptoms patients goes to the physician but it is important to see the physician who will understand the treatment and diagnosis of the allergy.

Doctors use to know about the medical history of the patient. If there are the same symptoms each year then physicians come to the results that there are seasonal allergies and work under the hypothesis in which the pollens are involved in allergy.

Skin tests and blood tests are used to find out the type of the pollens that are responsible for causing an allergy.

Skin Tests: In skin tests, the common pollens found in that specific areas are used to find out the type of pollens responsible for causing allergy. Some diluted extract of each kind of pollen is used to apply to a scratch or puncture, which is made on the back or arm of the patient under the skin.

The positive appearance of the pollens is shown in the form of small, reddened and raised area with the appearance of flush surrounding. However, it is not possible to prove particular pollen responsible for causing the allergy symptoms by this positive test. But, it indicates the presence of IgE antibody

Blood Tests:While, in some patients the skin test is not that much of advisable with certain skin conditions. For these patients diagnostic tests can be done using blood tests, in which the sample of blood is used to detect the level of IgE antibody for the specific allergen. RAST (radioallergosorbent) is one of the blood test that offers advantages over skin testing.
