Kidney Failure in Children
Kidney is an essential organ of body that performs several important tasks that contribute in a child's health and improvement. Kidney failure is a common disease in most of the young children. Hence, parents of kidney failure affected children need to visit pediatricians. Kidney disease can lead to more complicated conditions for children and that can cause children to suffer from weak bones, depression, extreme fatigue, nerve damage, sleep problems and difficulty in concentration.
Causes of Kidney Failure in Children
- Hemolytic-Uremic Syndrome (HUS) is considered as most dangerous and common factor responsible for kidney failure. HUS causes rupture of red blood cells in large amount that result into the severe damage of kidneys or its permanent loss.
- The structural problems in bladder, kidney any part of the urinary tract also been diagnosed as causes of kidney failure in children under the age group of 12 years.
- Inheritance can also be the cause of kidney failure in some cases. Researchers believe that some children born with kidney disease, as they are more susceptible to these types of diseases than other normal children. Children affected with structural problems of kidney need to go through surgery or renal transplantation in some cases.
- Nphrotic Syndrome: It is a kind of syndrome that also contributes to kidney failure. Children with this type of disorder are at high risk of getting the kidney disease.
Treatment for Kidney Failure in Children
Children with kidney failure have several options for treatment, and most of the cases are successfully treated to provide a normal life for children. Mostly, transplantation is used in treating kidney failure. Transplantation includes replacing a damaged kidney by a healthy kidney that is taken from a donor's body. This new kidney can perform all tasks of normal kidney in children.
However, after the kidney transplantation is done, the child also needs to be careful about medications and diet. The doctors' prescription should be followed for some days after the transplantation. Generally, the healthy kidney is taken from a person who has just died, but sometimes the kidney donor can be from the family of the patient child.
Dialysis is another treatment option for children affected with kidney failure. It includes the dialysis solution made of sugar and mineral mixture. This solution id released into the child's abdomen, and the peritoneal membrane or lining is filled with this dialysis solution. This helps in managing the symptoms of kidney failure.
