Herbs for Anxiety
Many natural herbs are used effectively to treat the anxiety disorder. Many people with anxiety try to manage the disease by medications, but they also experience some side effects of anti-anxiety medicines. Hence, natural supplements despites its lengthy period are used as it has no side-effects. These herbs include passionflower, lavender, lemon balm, oat straw, kava kava, skullcap and chamomile.
Natural Herbs for Anxiety
- Passion flower : It is used for a long time in anxiety treatment. Researchers believe that it is effective in treating the diseases related to the brain and nervous system of humans. Hence, it can be used to reduce the severity of the symptoms of anxiety disorders, panics and depression. The patients are given tincture, liquid extract or in the dried form passion flower for better results.

- Lemon balm : It is a perennial herb with mint effect. Generally, lemon balm is used as the sedative. Its antispasmodic properties make it important in nervous system related disease.
- Oat straw : Oat straw contains many vitamins that make the body easy to recover from the effects of the disease. In contains Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, calcium and zinc.
- Kava kava : These herbs contain kavalactones that can be used as an effective remedy for neurotransmitters by making the mind calm in panics. The roots of kava kava plants have been traditionally used in South Pacific islands. The important properties it contains are reducing the stress, sedative effects and reducing the depression in women with menopause. Hence, it is popular for the treatment of insomnia and anxiety.
- Chamomile : It contains the healing properties that make this herb very effective in treating psychological problems, insomnia and common cold also. It can be used in boiled water that gives relaxation from stomach pains.
- Skullcap : It is an effective nerviness that reduces the severity of stress, anxiety and tension. Its dosages are prescribed to take at bedtime. It also works as a preventative factor for panic attacks. Patients need to take at least two cups in a day for better results. The skullcap syrup can be prepared with its combination with sage and peppermint and oiled in the water.
- Valerian : The root extracts of valerian provides valepotriate which is widely used for anxiety treatment. Its sedative properties make the mind and body relax, so most of the people use it in treating the high blood pressure, insomnia, stress and palpitation since many years. It also becomes more effective when its dosages are taken for long period. Researches believe that valerian extract cannot be an addictive medicine for anxiety treatment.
- Ginseng : It is full of anti-anxiety properties. Taking ginseng helps to improve the hormone functionality, reduce the fatigue, stress and to relax the brain from the stress. It enhances the emotional balance and over all health of a person.
