Egg Allergy Symptoms
Egg allergy is most common form of allergies that mostly found in children but rarely in adults. However, having the egg allergy is not a big thing. Many people use to skip the egg from their diet but its not only the way to prevent allergy. They should have to skip all the food containing egg.
What happens during egg allergy?
In this condition, the immune system of the body over reacts with the proteins present in the egg. The body knows that the substances or proteins present in the egg are harmful to it after the intake of the egg or egg containing food.
It responds by the release of antibodies such as immunoglobulin E (IgE) that fights against the attackers. In turn, the chemicals like histamine are released by these antibodies that start the counter attack. But, the release of these chemicals affects the gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
The symptoms of the egg allergy can be seen within a minutes or hours later after the intake of egg. Egg allergy can be classified under the symptoms such as;
- Skin reactions: Allergy of egg appears first on the skin. It appears in the form of red rashes, bumpy to hives. It can be also seen as eczema that is atopic dermatitis and irritable itching. However, skin allergy is the symptom that appears in all types of allergies.
- Sinus symptoms: In this condition there is runny nose that leads into watery and itchy eyes that sneeze to coughing, wheezing and asthma. There may be also swelling of blood vessels near the hands, under the skin, on face, genitals and tongue. The swelling is also known as angioedema. Egg allergies may also cause allergic nasal inflammation, which is known as rhinitis.
- Oral symptoms: In this condition there is swelling and redness around the mouth and lip area. This symptom is very common in egg allergy. Along with the inflammation there may be soreness and itchiness that bring problem to talking and eating. Oral symptoms are the symptoms that are prominently visible that the patient may become more upset.
- Gastrointestinal symptoms: The symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea and vomiting are some of the most symptoms of egg allergy. There may be also indigestion and abdominal cramping but are often misleading. Gastrointestinal symptoms also causes to fatigue and general lethargy accompanying an egg allergy. Egg allergy can also cause heartburn.
Anaphylaxis: This is most fatal reaction of egg allergy. The reaction occurs in the people who are more sensitive to egg or even its fumes and skin contact. Anaphylaxis is nothing but a swelling of throat and mouth that blocks the airways and leads to difficulty in breathing. It comes with dangerous blood drops in blood pressure resulting in dizziness.
Controlling the epinephire shots or prescribing diphnhydramine, the severe allergy can be treated, but it doesn't give permanent cure. The best way to prevent the egg allergy is to avoid eating egg and the food containing egg.
