Children Asthma
Asthma in children can be determined by the symptoms like shortness of breath, irritated cough and wheezing attacks. It becomes difficult to diagnose this disease, as it occurs in the infancy. Asthma causes obstruction in the respiratory system, which plays a vital role in breathing. Asthma attacks affect the narrow airways and muscles in the lungs.
Causes of Children Asthma
Children asthma can be caused by many triggers and risk factors. However, these triggers may differ by the age of the patient. Some of the most common causes of asthma in children include:
- Genetical Inheritance: Many studies show that most of the students who suffer from the asthma have the family history of asthma and other related disease. The inheritance of genes is considered as the major cause of asthma attacks in children. Some children suffer from different allergies that also trigger the asthma attacks.
- Respiratory infections: These are mostly found causes for asthma in children. Children with viral infections, bacterial infections or fungi are at high risk of getting asthma attacks. These infections create inflammation into the respiratory system, which is the main symptom of asthma.
- Irritants: There are some irritants that can cause asthmatic situation. These substances can be chemicals, paint odors, tobacco smoke, perfumes or sprays. When these irritants are inhaled, they cause inflammation in the respiratory system and lungs. Children are easily get infected by these irritants while roaming.
- Weather changes: As children have weak immune system, so they can be easily affected by the changes in the weather. Change in temperature and humidity may affect the irritants and allergens that can be inhaled by children.
Diagnosing Children Asthma
Children show same symptoms of asthma as find in adults, so the diagnosis becomes easy for the doctors. However, this diagnosis depends upon the every day observations by parents. Diagnosis of asthma in children includes the physical examination, family history with symptoms, medical history and tests performed to check the respiratory functions.
Treatment for Children Asthma
Doctors advise that parents must provide the necessary medicines to their children so that asthmatic situations can be avoided. There are two categories of the medicines used to treat the asthma attacks- the quick relief medicines and the asthma controller medicines. Hence, doctors need to diagnose the type of asthma and its symptoms.
Children can be effectively treated by the use of inhalers. Some children feel difficulty in inhaling, so they are provided with the puffers. These temporary treatments give time to visit the nearest hospital after the asthma attack.
Generally, an asthma management plan should be followed to treat the children. Most of the doctors begins the treatment with high level therapy and goes to the low level therapy, but this also may reduce the risk of asthma attacks.
Asthma treatment can be divided into following steps:
- To identify the causes of asthma and prevent them
- To understand the asthma symptoms and prevent them
- To administer the medications as the doctor's prescription
Asthma treatment in children will be easier when the parents will learn about the disease, its symptoms and medication treatments.
