Chicken Pox and Pregnancy

In pregnancy, any medicine taken for any reason can affect the development of infant. There can be possibly of developing abnormalities in baby. While taking any medicine or vaccine pregnant woman should consult to Doctor.

When pregnant woman exposed to the Varicella

If pregnant woman got infection of virus in childhood then her body contains antibodies against the virus. If she comes in contact with the child or adult infected by the virus she will also encounter with the virus but she will not caused chicken pox. Antibodies against Varicella zoster will kill the virus and protect mother as well as infant.

Immunity test

In pregnancy, different treatments are given. Most of the women don't remember whether they had chicken pox in childhood or not. In such cases blood test is taken to identify presence or absence of the antibodies against virus causing chicken pox.

In 18 to 20 weeks of pregnancy your infant's organs can be checked by using ultrasound scanning if any problem is created. If any abnormality is observed then doctors will try to solve the problem before child birth.

Avoid

Always avoid vaccination for chicken pox during pregnancy. If you didn't suffer from chicken pox before pregnancy then you should take vaccine immediately. After three months of vaccination you can conceive.

If woman get vaccine for chicken pox during early pregnancy it can develop abnormalities in developing fetus. Baby will get abnormalities in development of the brain, formation of the limbs, mental retardation abnormalities in eye development.
