Causes of Influenza (Flu)
Influenza is commonly known as flu. From the year 2009, many countries are facing the Swine flu epidemic. Many people died because of H1N1 virus and many are under treatment. The causes of influenza are given below.
How flu spreads
- Coughing, sneezing, and talking spreads virus in the surrounding.
- The virus spreads in the form of small infected droplets
- The flu patient can spread the disease before one day of appearing symptoms and three to eight days after the symptoms appeared
- Contagious period for children is more as compared to adult i.e. one week
- You can suffer from fever, if you touch any object which has been touched or contaminated by the flu patient
- Flu virus spreads through the air. When the normal person inhales such contaminated air, then he/she gets the flu.
- Virus can transfer form tactual contact
- Sharing of items like telephones, handkerchief, spoon , dress can spread the disease from patient to others
Causative agent
- Influenza or flu is highly infectious disease causes by RNA virus
- It is included in the Orthomyxoviidae family
- The influenza virus causes hundreds and thousands of the deaths in the world. By spreading seasonal epidemics
- Influenza virus infects to mammals as well as birds
- The patient infected by influenza virus shows symptoms like pain in muscles, ever, cough and headache
- In severe infection of virus causes pneumonia
- There are three types of viruses causing flu are influenza A, influenza B and influenza C
Influenza virus A
- Influenza virus A mostly infects the aquatic birds
- It is harmful virus type as compared to the type B and type C
- It shows mutation in the genetic material i.e. RNA
- Type A virus is divided into different serotypes according to the antibody response
- E.g., H1N1 causes Swine Flu, in 1957 H2N2 caused Asian Flu like this there are different serotypes of the influenza virus A
Influenza virus B
- The host for Type B is human being. Other than human beings influenza virus, B can infect the seal fish and ferret.
- It mutates lesser as compared to the type A influenza virus
- Infection of influenza is easy to control. Influenza B virus does not cause pandemics
- Pandemic is epidemic of infectious disease
Influenza virus CM
- Type C has only one species
- Human beings, pigs and dogs are infected by this type of virus
- This type harms less as compared to other two types
