Causes of Depression
Depression is a condition in which person loses hopes and happiness in life because of some unexpected event. Some factors that cause depression are:
Genetic
- Depression may be genetic. It is studied that depression may be transferred from one generation to the next.
- If there is a patient of depression in your family, then you may have two to three times the possibility of developing depression
- Genes not only decide the sex of a fetus but also the other characters along with diseases that are carried to the next generation
- Bipolar disorders are related to the mood or mind of a person. If person is suffering from depression then there are 25% of chances of developing depression.
Stress or tension
- There are many reasons for stress or tension. Mostly financial problem is a common cause of depression.
- Relations are very important in life. If there is any break up in the relation then it causes tension or stress to both members.
- If there is death of a close person then it can lead to depression
- Problems at the work place or job can depress a person
- When a person enters a new environment like after getting married, on a new job or while searching for a new job, it can cause depression
Negative Approach
Some people always think negatively, this may lead to depression
Health
- Some bedridden patients suffer from serious disorders. They may not able to do physical activity and talk about their feelings to anyone. This can cause depression
- AIDS Patients, heart patients or cancer patients may face this problem because they may not get expected results
- Sometimes high power medical drugs are provided in the treatment. They can also affect the mental state of the patient causing depression
Problem in concentration
- Some person may have problems concentrating AT work or study
- If person is not able to concentrate then other problems may arise like remembering, memorizing things
- Patient may face problems while making important decisions
Biological reason
- Biologically there may be some problems. Neurotransmitter is a neural substance secreted by the endings of the neuron (brain cell).
- Nerotramnsmitter is important in transferring signal from one neuron to another
- If there is any problem in balancing neurotransmitter then it can create problem in communication resulting in depression
- If there is less concentration of serotonin then it can cause difficulty in sleeping
- Norepinephrine controls the alertness of the person. If concentration of norepinephrine decreases then can affect the alertness of the person.
Alcohol consumption
- Some people take support of alcohol and drugs to get relief from stress
- Actually unlimited alcohol drinking and drug consumption can cause opposite effect- a person may go into depression
Food
- Diet is very important in our life. The nature of your diet can affect the mental state of a person
- If there is absence of vitamins and folic acid then it can cause depression
