Causes of Cervical Cancer
It is observed that girls below age fifteen may not develop cervical cancer but women from the age of twenty to thirty have more chances of developing cancer. Cervical cancer is a cancer related to female reproductive system. There are many causes of cervical cancer but some of the important are given below.
Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
Human Papilloma Viruses is a group of viruses that causes warts, cancerous and non-cancerous tumors. HPV can infect to the reproductive tract, external genital and closer part of anus. HPV can transfer from one person to other through sexual relationship.
Sexual relation:
Women have more chances to develop cervical cancer, if she maintains sexual relations with more numbers of partners. Or a man with HPV had sexual relationship with a normal woman, then, it can transfer to that woman.
Deficiency:
Women from poor families do not get enough nourishment; it increases the chances of cervical cancer. In some undeveloped region people do not get enough sources to detect cervical cancer in pre-cancerous stage.
Avoid:
It is very necessary to have Pap smear test (examination of cell of cervix under microscope), if you feel uncomfortable or any disturbance in menstrual cycle. Most of time women avoid regular Pap test which can avoid cervical cancer.
Smoking and chewing tobacco: Women having bad habits of smoking and chewing tobacco are more prone to develop cervical cancer than women who are not smoking and chewing tobacco.
Food
These days' people are mostly concentrating on food from animal source or junk food. If diet includes fruits and green vegetables then it will reduce the risk of developing cancer.
Poor immune system
Poor or weak immune system may be due to infection of HIV. AIDS patient have very weak immune system and susceptible to many types of infection. If AIDS patient get infected by the HPV then it can cause cervical cancer. In organ transplantation, to avoid rejection of transplanted organ immune system is suppressed by drugs. These transplant operated patient can develop cervical cancer due to infection of Human papilloma Virus.
Hormonal misbalance
According to specialist in cancer, some women uses oral contraceptives or birth controlling pills. These pills directly act on reproductive hormones. These women have more risk of cervical cancer. It is studied that long term use of these pills and if it is started using before age of twenty four or twenty five it increases the chances of developing cancer.
Age:
Cervical cancer risk increases in women above age 40-45 and girls who have started sexual contact in early age or before the age of 14-15.
Diethylstilbestrol (DES):
DES is an artificial estrogen. It was used in early times to maintain pregnancy but afterwards it was found that DES can disturb in the formation of reproductive system in fetus as well as cancer related to vagina and cervix. Mothers who take DES during their pregnancy have more risk of cervical cancer and if they have daughters then they are also prone to cervical cancer.
Douching:
There are some naturally occurring anti-cancerous agents in vagina. Douching can destroy these agents and increases chances of developing cervical cancer.
Exposure to chemicals:
