What Is Bronchitis?

Bronchitis is swelling of the bronchi or bronchial tubes which carry air into the lungs. Inflammation is one of the chemical reactions in the human body. This creates the pain, swelling and the redness.

Bronchitis can be caused because of:

When the cells coated the bronchial tubes are aggravated, the cilia (tiny hairs) that generally catch and remove the things from the outside that stop the working.

When you take breath, hairs near the opening of nostrils clean the pollen, dust, and other particles present in the air. Acute and chronic are two types of the bronchitis. Medical condition of acute occurs quickly and then several actual bronchitis symptoms are also occurred. But these bronchitis symptoms are short-term and last only within few weeks. Acute bronchitis caused because of viruses which affects on respiratory system.

Chronic bronchitis is mild and long term that it takes many months or the years to cure. In this case, bronchial tubes carry on to be red or swollen inflamed, annoyed, and produce mucus on large amount. Smoking is very common cause for occurring the chronic bronchitis.

Types of Bronchitis:

Following are two types of bronchitis:

  • Acute bronchitis - Because of viral infection, acute bronchitis is started. It is lasts for only few days. It generally not produces harmful and no long lasting effects.
  • Chronic bronchitis - When a person has too much phlegm in the airways then chronic bronchitis is diagnosed. This cause persistent, productive cough etc. If cough and sputum are present for three months, six months or for present for two years then it is considered as chronic bronchitis.

    Causes of Bronchitis:

    The major substance responsible for causing chronic bronchitis is smoking. Smoking of substances like tobacco and cigarette affects on the bronchial tubes.

    Smoking is responsible for bronchitis while other substances like environmental pollution and kinds of occupational exposures also responsible for causing chronic bronchitis. When you smoke and live or work in the environment which is polluted then there are very chances of causing the chronic bronchitis.

    Acute bronchitis is generally occurred because of viruses, and it arises collectively following or with cold or different respiratory infection. Because of coughing, germs like viruses may be spread from person to person. They may also be spread when you touch your nose, eyes or mouth after contacting with the infected person.

    The people, who have repeated session of bronchitis with the wheezing, coughing, and shortness of the breath, may also cause asthma.

    Mostly bronchitis occurs in the season of cold and flu and generally combined with upper respiratory infection:

    Acute bronchitis frequently starts with an irritating and dry cough that is activated by the swelling of the coating of the bronchial tubes. Other signs and symptoms may include the following:

    Chronic bronchitis is very regular in smokers. In most of the cases, when acute bronchitis is occurs repeatedly then it develops to chronic bronchitis. Excluding fever and chills, the person suffering from chronic bronchitis has productive cough and most of symptoms of acute bronchitis like shortness of breath, tightness of breath etc for many days of month or for many months of the year.

    A person suffering from chronic bronchitis takes longer time to get well from cold and common respiratory illnesses. Shortness of breath, wheezing and coughing are become routine activity of life. Breathing can become much difficult.
