Autism, known as the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), is a disease that affects a person's communication skill and his or her relations with the society. It is better to diagnose this disease before the age of three years; the treatment is based on the children's ability and physical strength.
As of now, there are many options available for autism treatment due to new research in autism. Although, a standard treatment for autism is still unavailable, as different doctors and pediatricians follow different therapies and techniques to treat their patients.

Generally, most of the cases of autism are the results of low supplements of vitamins and minerals. These supplements include folic acid, magnesium, chromium, iron and calcium. Generally, this treatment is home based preschool program, but if the child is above than six years, this treatment is given by other agencies.
Medical Treatment for Autism
Medicines can be used to manage or reduce the problems related behavior and psychological disorder, but the autisms disease cannot be treated completely by medications. Medicines used for autism treatment are psychoactive, which affect the brain of the child. These medications include:
- Antipsychotic Drugs: These drugs are widely used in autism treatment to reduce hyperactivity, aggression, withdrawal and repetitive behaviors in children. Quetiapine, olanzapine and risperidon are the major drugs that come under the antipsychotic drugs.
- Antidepressants: In some cases of autism, people are treated with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) to manage the aggression, irritability and repetitive behavior. These medicines include sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine and fluvoxamine.
- Stimulants: Stimulants are used to improve the patient's concentration at work and attention by managing the hyperactivity symptom. Autism treatment includes stimulants like amphetamine and methylphenidate.
Anticonvulsants are also widely used to treat the autism symptoms like seizures. These drugs also help to manage the patient's behavior and mental instability. Alpha-2 adrenergic agonists have been successful in treating the people with autism who have problems related to behavior and hyperactivity.
Autism treatments differ in approach from one person to another, but many of them can have positive results. Hence, parents can be confident while treating their autism-affected child, as the disease can be overcome through advanced techniques and therapies.
