Appendicitis Symptoms
What is Appendicitis?
Appendix is a narrow, closed ended tube of several inches in the length which is attached with cecum as like a worm. Inside layer of the appendix creates little amount of mucus, which flows through the center of the appendix. Lymphatic tissue is present on the wall of appendix, part of immune system which produces antibodies.
Irritation of the appendix causes appendicitis. This occurs frequently because appendix becomes blocked. Anybody does not know that why the blockage occurs in the appendices of the children
Appendicitis is the mainly general cause of urgently abdominal surgery in the children of the United States. It mostly occurs in the boys rather than girls and in teenagers rather than the younger children. This is generally occurs in all ages of children from new born babies to young children.
Definition of Appendicitis:
Appendicitis is a small unimportant appendage to the colon, becomes swollen and inflamed.
Appendicitis symptoms and signs:
Abdominal pain is the main symptom of the appendicitis. Pains are not fixed at one location. Pain is much difficult to locate because, when asked about the area of pain then people indicate the central location of abdomen. Second most common symptom is that loss of hunger and starts the omitting. The sickness and omitting occur because of intestinal barrier also.
As appendicle swelling raises, appendicitis extends through the appendix and up to its outer covering then inside layer of the abdomen. Once the peritoneum becomes swollen, changes the pain and located in the small portion of the body. This portion is between the front of hip bone at right side and the belly button. Diagnosis of appendicitis is difficult because it changes from one child to another. Many other conditions also take off appendicitis including gastroenteritis, ovarian cysts in girls and urinary tract infections.
Abdominal Pain: Abdominal pain is mostly occurring symptom of the appendicitis. Pains are started at the noval area and moved towards lower right side's corner of the abdomen. As the disease progresses pains goes on increasing. Area of pain then fixed near appendix at the top right side of pelvic bone.
Fever and Other Symptoms of Illness:
Serious illness and bad flu are the appendicitis symptoms. General appendicitis symptoms including fever of low grade, loss of hunger and occurs depression.
Bowel Problems:
Appendicitis symptoms may also affects on bowel habits of a person. It causes extreme diarrhea, incapacity to pass gas and constipation.
Abdominal Swelling:
Abdominal swelling is one of the appendicitis symptoms. Swelling is not visible to the outside but it can feel as something is in the stomach.
Diagnosis of Appendicitis:
According to experienced physician, good test for the appendicitis is the patient's history and physical tests. CT scans and blood tests are sometimes important when more information about patient is required. Observation helps to clarify diagnosis or to prepare child for the surgery. In some cases surgeon prefers to operate quickly.
White Blood Cell Count:
With the infection, white blood cells count in blood becomes eminent. Elevated white blood cells are not only because of appendicitis. So only this is not considered as a symptom of appendicitis.
Urinalysis:
It includes microscopic test in which test the urine that notices white blood cells, red blood cells and the bacteria present in the urine. If there is stone or swelling in the bladder or kidney then this test is not useful. If swelling is increases, it extends to bladder or ureter which causes unusual urinalysis. Patients suffer from appendicitis, suffer from normal urinalysis so unusual urinalysis is not a cause or symptom of appendicitis.
Abdominal X-Ray:
The test of abdominal x-ray detects the fecalith which is pea sized piece of stool which gets blocked because of opening of appendiceal. This mostly occurs in the children.
Ultrasound:
It is a painless method which requires sound waves for identifying sound waves in the body. This process detects the inflamed appendix. Ultra sound useful for women because it prohibit the conditions involving fallopian tubes, ovaries and uterus which imitates the appendicitis
Barium Enema:
This is x-ray test in which liquid barium is inserts into the colon.
Computerized tomography (CT) Scan:
Computerized tomography applies on non pregnant women which diagnosis the appendicitis.
Laparoscopy:
Laparoscopy is a surgical process in which little tube of fiberoptic with camera is put in the abdomen by with by small puncturing the wall of abdomen. It allows direct view of pelvic organ and abdominal appendix.
Treatment of Appendicitis:
In many cases, appendicitis is treated by the operation which is called as appendectomy. This surgery is performed depending on symptom, age and the condition of child. Antibiotics are also used to minimize the chances of postoperative infection.
Appendicitis is treated by removing the inflamed appendix through an appendectomy. Surgeons usually remove a child's appendix either by making a traditional incision in the abdomen, or by using a small surgical device called a laparoscope that creates a smaller opening in the abdomen. An appendectomy usually requires a 2- to 3-day hospital stay.
After and, before surgery, antibiotics and intravenous will help stay infection on bay and reduces the risk for wound infections behind surgery. If required, your child will also accept pain medication.
You can infect appendix bursts, it must even be removed surgically, and other than a longer hospital stay may be required so antibiotics can kill any bacteria that have spread in the child's body.
Laparoscopic Surgery:
The Laparoscopic surgery minimally invasive performed by the aid of small camera threaded in the abdomen has transformed many types of abdominal surgery. For e.g. Laparoscopy surgery is using 80 to 90% of gallbladder operations. Nowadays several doctors are using laparoscopy technique to take away the appendix.
Complications of Appendicitis:
Following are the list of complications that occur during the appendicitis:
- Abscess
- Wound infection
- Peritonitis
- Fistulas
The mainly serious complication for appendicitis is rupture. Appendicitis is not quickly diagnosed with goes untreated. Older adults, infants, and young children are highest risk. Appendixes rupture lead to abscess and peritonitis. In some patients, appendicitis complications lead to organ failure and death.
