Appendicitis Surgery
Appendicitis is generally removed with surgical operations when it is at its last stage. In most of the cases of acute appendicitis, the appendicitis's inflammation and pains may burst appendix. Hence, the appendicitis is removed through the surgery. The most surgery widely used for appendicitis treatment is known as the appendectomy. The new surgery is laparoscopic surgery that allows the laparoscope to inspect the appendicitis inside the abdomen.
Appendectomy
Appendectomy involves making an incision of about three inches in size into the skin and abdominal wall exactly over the appendix area. The surgeon first needs to examine the condition of appendix to check whether there are other problems before removing the appendix. This process includes releasing the appendix from abdomen and colon, then sewing the hole made on the appendicitis.
However, appendectomy surgery may take long time to heal the appendicitis, so some doctors prefer laparoscopic surgery for appendicitis. Antibiotics or prophylactic intravenous antibiotics are recommended before the surgery when the doctors find the risk of sepsis.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Many specialists use laparoscopic surgery to deal with appendicitis because it does not include making a large incision in the body. Patients who go through this type of surgery are given anesthesia, so they may experience less pains than the general appendectomy surgery.
During this surgery, a camera attached to the laparoscope is sent into the abdomen. This camera takes the images of inside abdomen and the appendicitis, and these images can be seen on a monitor. To make the movement of the camera the cavity of abdomen is filled with carbon dioxide gas. When the appendicitis is identified with the help of the images, it is removed from its place without harming any other part of the body.
In some cases of appendicitis, there may be some complications after these surgeries. That may include the appendicitis symptoms and inflammation at the same area where the surgery is done. These complications arise when abscess is remained inside the abdomen.
Generally, young patients need to be hospitalized for some days after the surgery. Some post-operative medical treatments are given to children after the surgery. Young patients are prescribed to maintain a healthy regime to avoid further complications. Soft foods, non-irritant foods and soups are mostly recommended for children. Children are provided vitamins and minerals supplements. Acute or chronic appendicitis symptoms cannot be managed without surgery and antibiotics. Hence, the post medical treatments are required to avoid the risk of recurrence of the appendicitis symptoms.
