Anemia Symptoms Treatment
What is Anemia?
As we know Anemia is the condition in which the number of red blood cells in blood counts very low. The person having this condition is called as anemic because of low blood count. Hemoglobin present in the blood is the factor that carries oxygen from lungs to various other parts of body. Person having anemia may experience shortage of oxygen rich blood that may cause tiredness.
However, anemia is the temporary condition and can be chronic problem. Mild anemia can be treated very easily but it takes more time for severe anemia or it may be long lasting and life threatening if the condition not gets treated on proper time.
Symptoms of Anemia:
Anemia shows common symptoms such as;
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Weakness
- Tiredness
- Paleness
- Heart palpitations if there is severe condition
- Increased heart rate during exertion
- Low blood pressure
- Rapid breathing
- Equilibrium difficulties
- Confusion
- Tingling and numbness in feet and hands
- Jaundice
- Depression
- Fatigue
- Weight loss
- Abdominal pain
How it can be diagnosed?
Symptoms are the major source to diagnose the anemic condition, but it is also diagnosed by the blood test to measure the level of hemoglobin in blood. It is also helpful to count other factors such as folic acid, vitamin B12 and bilirubin present in blood. However, the size of blood also can be measured by the test that helps to find out the type of anemia.
There are other methods including bone marrow biopsy in which bone marrow is used to remove for further examination, which is done under the microscope. This method is very helpful to diagnose vitamin B12 anemia.
Treatment of Anemia:
Treatment of anemia depends on iron that the individual gets through diet. Doctors advise to take iron rich foods such as seafood, lima beans, dried fruits, liver, green leafy vegetables, grains and blackstrap molasses.
Level of blood cell and underlying condition causing anemic condition is determined by doing blood cells. The anemic condition because of heavy blood loss and low production of red blood cells can be treated by providing supplement of iron, fluid oxygen and blood transfusion to help in building new red blood cells.
Anemic condition due to vitamin B12 is treated with the help of oral dose or injectable dose of vitamin B12. Blood transfusion and medication is the best way to treat anemia caused by stem cells or bone marrow and heredity anemia like thalassemia.
Folic acid deficiency can be treated or cured by using food sources such as meat, cheese, poultry, eggs, milk, liver, green leafy vegetables, Lima, dry fruits, yeast and kidney beans containing folic acid. Folic acid tablets are very effective to cure anemia.
Except these treatments there are other ways or therapies including fresh frozen plasma, oxygen, fluids, vasopressors and platelet replacement. However, the treatment can be done on the basis of underlying cause of the anemia.
Treatment is the way that is done after having the condition but it will be more beneficial if one can prevent it from causing. Every have to take diet including vitamin B-complex and iron containing food, which is essential in the development and maintenance of fresh and satisfactory blood cells.
