What is sinus infection?

Sinus infection is the inflammation of one or more sinuses, which is also called as sinusitis. Sinus is nothing but hollow cavities within the bones of face and is lined by the mucous membrane.

These mucus membranes produce fluid that usually drains into the nasal passages. When these drainage sites get blocked the drainage of the sinus stops that leads into the development of sinus infection.

However, there are various factors behind sinus infection but viral infection is the important factor amongst all that may also cause due the bacteria present in the environment.

What are the factors behind sinus infection?

There are various pollen grains, bacteria and other environmental factors including pollution that causes sinus infection but some several airborne substances that are also responsible for causing sinus infection. These substances are inhaled through mouth and nose. Many of these can lead into various sinus infections.

Some pollen particles released by flowers enter into the body through breathing. However, the mucus present in sinuses, trap this dirt entering lungs. But sometimes it fails to manage with the relentless onslaught that the mucus doesn't get drainage properly. This condition leads into infection and blocking or nasal.
