Alcohol Allergy Symptoms
Allergy is the condition that creates its symptoms anytime at any age. The allergic conditions depend on the sensitivity of the person to that specific food item. Alcohol allergy is also one of the food allergies, which is very rare condition. Most of people feel allergic conditions with alcohol if they are more sensitive to natural effects of the alcohol ingredients to the body. Mostly alcohol allergy is referred as alcohol intolerance.
This allergic condition founds mostly in Asian countries more than in United States. If the person is having some other food allergies then he may have alcohol allergies also. The severity of the allergic condition depends on the immune power of the person. However, the alcohol allergy does not give any mild symptoms, if there is alcohol allergy then you will find only severe symptoms of the condition.
Symptoms of the Alcohol allergy:
As like other food allergies, alcohol allergy also gives some common signs such as nausea, faster heartbeat, headache and sometimes flow of blood. Below are given some major alcohol symptoms;
- Low Intolerance: In this condition there are signs such as breathing difficulty, rashes, stomach cramps etc that may occur after taking just 2 pegs of alcohol or 1 ml of pure alcohol.
- Non-Allergic Rhinitis: In this condition there may be production of mucus and nasal symptoms resulting in runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion etc.
- Swelling and Hives:Alcohol use may heighten the symptoms of the disease in people who are suffering from other conditions such as chronic urticaria and angioedema.People with chronic urticaria and angioedema may experience increase in the allergy symptoms after intake of alcohol. In case of these people alcohol is only responsible for worsen the underlying disease process.
- Flushing Reaction: Enzyme Aldehyde Dehydrogenase helps to break down alcohol after taking it. However lack of the Enzyme Aldehyde Dehydrogenase can lead to flushing reactions. The person may experience the conditions such as rapid heartbeat and nausea in flushing reaction.
- Presence of Sulphites: Sulphite is a preservative used for preserving the alcohol to prevent it from spoiling. This may lead into anaphylaxis and hives.
Prevention ways for alcohol allergy:
Presence of histamine is more in red wine than in white wine. Intake of wine and beer gives reactions such as redness of skin hives, vomiting, loss of motor functions, eczema itchy nose and eyes etc. However, in fruit wines histamine is lower than in the wine made by grapes.
Removal of unwanted organism using fining process is the option that may help to prevent the allergic conditions of alcohol. Egg white is used for this fining process that helps to reduce the allergic effects of histamines. You can take antihistamine prior before taking alcohol to reduce the reactions.
You have to avoid the drinks for several weeks that give you problems to you. Doctors use a pill of each suspected agent to find out or diagnose the proper agent for causing alcohol symptoms. The symptom appears after two hours if you alcohol allergy. Some vitamins such as vitamin E, Aloe Vera and Quercitin help to treat allergy symptoms.
