Acid Reflux While Pregnant
Most of women experience heartburn during their pregnancy. It is possible for every woman who have never experienced before pregnancy. Heartburn is common during pregnancy because of the space limitation.
Cause for acid reflux during pregnancy:
You may find various causes that lead into acid reflux during pregnancy. Increase in hormone is one of the most important reasons that soften the ligaments, which normally keeps the lower esophageal sphincter tightly closed. The relaxation of the LES at unsuitable times, encourage the foods and stomach acid to come back. Growth of the baby puts pressure on the stomach that can force stomach content into the esophagus through the LES.
The heartburn mostly starts in first trimester and may get worse through delivery also that continues ahead for couple of months. The woman may feel burning sensation in chest and throat and there may be odd soar in the throat and mouth. It can be cured by various ways but doctors mostly use to apply medicines of hormones that give relaxation to some certain muscles of the stomach. These muscles keep the stomach acid down in LES. The relaxation of the muscle is responsible for coming up the gastric muscles in to the esophagus causing heartburn and acid reflux.
However, we know that there is no any permanent and result oriented treatment for the acid reflux, but it is possible by accepting some ways that helps to cure or prevent the acid reflux. In all we can say the changes or what you drink, eat and do using gravity may help to keep the acid reflux down.
What can mother do?
Most important thing, she must be relaxed. Pregnancy is the condition that occurs at the start of the pregnancy and increases along with the growth of baby and till it born. It is important that the mother should not be taking a lot of medications as suggested for acid reflux and heartburn. There is possibility of going down the acid reflux after the birth of baby.
Below are some pre-emptive strikes that can help a mother to avoid acid reflux and heartburn.
- First you have to avoid large meals. You may take smaller meal in portion of time.
- You may take antacids such as Tums and Maalox that help to reduce the discomfort in some level.
- Avoid drinking fluids in large amount. Carbonated drinks, highly acidic juices and coffee are responsible for developing heartburn and acid reflux. So avoid this type of drink.
- Avoid spicy and fatty food.
- Laying down after immediate meal and eating meal at late night increase heartburn and acid reflux.
- You can raise the level of your head for some few inches on your bed that will help the gastric acid to move down.
- Avoid tight cloths around the waist. Prefer to loose or baggy clothing.
- Try to bend over at knees rather than at the waist.
- Don't take the meal with speed rather than you may chew it slowly.
Along this she would not be get discouraged and try to keep her always happy and relax that will help to pass the symptoms. Remind that the condition is only in the period of the pregnancy only. After baby's birth, it tends to go completely.
