Pink Eye Self Care
Pinkeye is an inflammation in conjunctiva of the eye. This disease is also known as conjunctivitis that causes the redness and tears in eyes. This disease can be the result of different virus infections, allergic infections, bacterial infections or chemical exposure. However, pinkeye can be prevented and controlled by some self precautions.
The best way to prevent the infection of pinkeye is to avoid the infected person’s contact with others. These are some precaution one has to follow at home to control the spread of pink eye:
- Wash your hands before you touch your eyes.
- Keep all cloths and other belongings of patient away from the cloths of other family members. You can prefer paper towel also.
- Frequently change the pillowcases until the disease is cured.
- Avoid touching your eyes with fingers to wipe your eyes instead use tissues. vAvoid eye makeup and do not share it with others.
- Do not use contact lenses until the disease is cure.
- Prepare a washcloth soaked in warm water to put on your eyes for sometime. Follow this activity 3-4 times a day. This will give ease from the discomforts of pink eye and reduce the stress created on the eyelashes.
- Avoid sharing your eye drops with others. Otherwise, it will spread the disease.
- Avoid putting patch on your eyes. Patch on eyes will make the condition worse.
Pink eye is very common disease among children, and it spreads among children very soon. Therefore, it becomes necessary to be serious about child's safety. A list of general precaution to keep your children away from the infection of pinkeye is given below:
- Teach children to ash their hands and make them aware of the seriousness of disease.
- Tell them to not to share their personal items with other infected child if they found this disease in him/her.
- Do not allow your child to touch other person’s eye drops or lenses.
- Keep changing pillow covers of your child and don't mix them into other cloths of family.
- Close the doors and windows of your home during daytime to limit the dust and allergic element.
Most of cases of newborn with pink eye are the result of sexual transmission of disease. In these cases, mothers pass the disease into infants by birth. It also spreads or can be infected to an infant when an infant touches the infected surface or comes into the contact of coughing or sneezing.
When the case of pink eye goes beyond the prevention it is necessary to visit the doctor and administer the prescribed medications. It is also important that patients should not share their medicines with others even if other person is also infected of pinkeye.
